Postdoctoral Recruitment for Youth Talent Program Teams


Two cohorts of Youth Talent Excellence Program members have been selected since the initiation of of Biological and Molecular Smart Manufacturing Platform, ZJU-Hangzhou Global Scientific and Technological Innovation Center. For better teams and more advanced research, the 2021 Postdoctoral Recruitment for Youth Talent Excellence Program Teams of Biological and Molecular Smart Manufacturing Platform are now released.


I. YU Haoran’s Team

Dr. Haoran Yu, member of Youth Talent Excellence Program of the Center, is a research fellow of “Hundred Talents Program” and PhD supervisor of Zhejiang University. He got his PhD at the UCL and was a Research Fellow at the UCL then. His research interests are mainly developing new protein engineering strategies for enzyme molecular modification, and he has published over 10 papers as the first author in SCI journals, e.g. PNAS, and obtained one national invention patent. He is currently working on (1) developing methods for smart design of enzyme molecules; (2) exploring the development of enzyme molecules with new functions by introducing non-natural amino acids.

【Fields and Requirements】

  1. Enzyme molecular evolution: experience in protein expression and purification, priorities given to the applicants with experience in enzyme molecular mutant library construction, high throughput screening or molecular dynamics simulation, molecular docking, Rosetta and other tools.

  2. Smart design of enzyme molecules: experience in developing machine learning methods using Matlab, Python and other tools.


II. MA Bin’s Team

Dr. MA Bin, member of Youth Talent Excellence Program of the Center, is a research fellow of “Hundred Talents Program” and PhD supervisor of Zhejiang University. He is currently Deputy Director of the Key Laboratory of Agricultural Resources and Environment of Zhejiang Province, Deputy Director of Youth Working Committee of Soil Science Society of China, and was selected as an overseas high-level young talent in 2018. His main research interests are: DBTL theory, the integration of biotechnology (microbial dark matter mining) and information technology (microbial genome big data) (BTIT) with iBiochemfoundry high-throughput automation system, targeting at the basic construction principle of synthetic microbial colony, network regulation principle, substance exchange principle and other key scientific issues so as to develop customized synthetic microbial colony technologies in the fields of environmental health, green agriculture and human health.

【Fields and Requirements】

Background in synthetic biology, bioinformatics, microbiology and machine learning, etc.  


III. LIU Xia’s Team

Dr. LIU Xia, member of Youth Talent Excellence Program of the Center, got his bachelor’s degree from Wuhan University in 2009, his PhD degree from Zhejiang University in 2014 and did his postdoctoral research at Baylor College of Medicine, USA from 2016 to 2020. He has published several papers as first author or co-first author in top journals, e.g. Nat Cell Biol, Cell Mol Immunol, Cell Death Dis, Cell Rev Allergy Immunol. His research interests are the function and mechanism of endoplasmic reticulum homeostasis and stress in the tumor and stem cell microenvironment, and he aims to conduct a series of original research on how to develop innovative tumor immunotherapy solutions by targeting at tumor microenvironment (e.g. TGF-β). 

【Fields and Requirements】

1. Priorities will be given to the applicants with experience in cell biology, immunology, tumor biology, developmental biology, structural biology, bioinformatics and other related fields.

2. Familiar with molecular biology, cell culture, mouse tumor model construction and other related experiments.


IV. LIAN Jiachang’s Team

Dr. Jiachang, member of Youth Talent Excellence Program of the Center, is a research fellow of “Hundred Talents Program” and PhD supervisor of Zhejiang University. He is Deputy Director of the Key Laboratory of Biomass Chemical Industry of the Ministry of Education at Zhejiang University, recipient of the Outstanding Youth Fund of Zhejiang Province, and member of National Youth Talent Program. He has so far published over 40 papers in top journals, e.g. Nature Communications, Metabolic Engineering, ACS Synthetic Biology, Biotechnology and Bioengineering. He is BMC Biotechnology Associate Editor and Editor of Synthetic Biology. His research interests are the construction of efficient artificial cell factories using synthetic biology methods (microbial cell factories for the synthesis of plant natural products and C1 feedstock utilization in particular).

【Fields and Requirements】

1. PhD degree in synthetic biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, biotechnology, microbiology, molecular biology and other related fields from a top university or research institute at home and abroad.

2. Priorities will be given to the applicants with experience in synthetic biology, genome editing, protein design and directed evolution, natural product synthesis, CO2 fixation, and BTIT cross-fertilization.


V. MO Yiming’s Team

Dr. MO Yiming, member of Youth Talent Excellence Program of the Center, is a research fellow of “Hundred Talents Program” and PhD supervisor of Zhejiang University. He got his bachelor’s degree from Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University in 2014 under the supervision of Prof. LUO Guangsheng, an expert in microfluidics and process intensification, and then was admitted to Department of Chemical Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) under the supervision of Prof. Klavs F. Jensen, academician of American Academy of Engineering and American Academy of Sciences. He has so far published a number of papers of high impact at top journals, e.g. Science, and has rich interdisciplinary research experience at electrochemical organic synthesis, flow chemistry, microfluidics, high throughput screening, and artificial intelligence.

【Fields and Requirements】

1. Organic electrocatalysis: applying catalytic methodology in the electrolysis of water, electroreduction of carbon dioxide, nitrogen, etc., into the electrochemical catalytic synthesis of fine chemicals.

2. Microfluidic electrochemical synthesis of fine chemicals: integrating electrochemistry and microfluidic control and achieving precise control of electrochemical reaction intermediates synergistically to develop continuous synthesis solutions, and to replace the traditional production methods of fine chemicals.

3. Intelligent and fully automated reaction screening platform: building a set of automated and customized chemical screening platform and integrating microreactor design, industrial robots and intelligent control for the screening and optimization of unmanned organic chemical synthesis.

4. Priorities will be given to the applicants with background in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials, computers and other related disciplines.


VI. WANG Wei’s Team

Dr. WANG Wei, research fellow of “Hundred Talents Program” and PhD supervisor of Zhejiang University, has long been engaged in the design and research of tissue engineering and biomedical polymer materials. He has chaired and participated in many key projects/general programs of National Natural Science Foundation of China, key R&D projects and natural science foundation projects of Zhejiang Province and different ministries. He has published over 50 papers in Prog Polym Sci, Adv Mater, Mater Horiz, Biomaterials, etc., with more than 3,000 SCI citations and H-index of 25 and he applied for 26 patents, with 10 authorized. In addition, he has won one Second Prize of Tianjin Natural Science Award in 2015 (ranked 3rd), and received the funding from National Excellent Youth Science Foundation in 2018, and 9th China Outstanding Youth Research Award in Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine in 2019.

Key research directions:

1. Creation and application of novel functionalized biomaterials;

2. Stem cells/biomaterials for myocardial repair and trauma healing.

Biomaterials, polymer materials, organic chemistry, stem cells, biomedical engineering and other related majors.
