Atomic Precision Manufacturing Platform (Under Preparation)

Manufacturing, a major component of national economy, is the foundation for national building, the instrument for national revitalization and the base of a strong nation. Atomic precision manufacturing is at the forefront of mechanical engineering, mechanics, materials, control science and other disciplines and their interdisciplinary studies. As traditional processing theory is no longer capable of guiding the material removal process of ultra-high precision parts at molecular and atomic levels, the steady advancement of new theories, methods and process equipment for atomic cutting processing and measurement characterization in the breadth and depth of manufacturing is the core channel for achieving the goals of “Made in China 2025”.

Taking advantage of the interdisciplinary convergence of Zhejiang University, School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Aeronautics and Astronautics and Center for X-Mechanics are planning to set up Atomic Precision Manufacturing Platform, the first of its kind in China, with academician YANG Huayong as the chief scientist, academician YANG Wei as the advisor and Prof. JU Bingfeng in charge of the operation and management of the platform. With new development philosophy, the platform aims to be a global interdisciplinary sci-tech summit, gathering a cohort of academic masters and young talents and led by manufacturing frontiers and basic advantages.

The platform highlights the R&D of extreme time-space in-situ measurement characterization technology and integrated atomic precision processing-measurement equipment. With the progress of characterization methods seeking ultimate time-space, the platform is aimed at, in basic research, revealing the intrinsic mechanism of atomic precision processing so as to drive engineering manufacturing technology in a continuous flow and the interdisciplinary studies of mechanical engineering, mechanics and materials. Meanwhile, the platform conducts the application of basic research in industry; in particular, the application of advanced nano characterization, positioning and measurement technologies into process equipment R&D for high-efficient large-scale atomic-level manufacturing processes and realization methods, and for major national needs and industrial upgrade of Chinese manufacturing.

I. Mainly recruit talents in

1. Atomic precision manufacturing of physical limits:  

1.1 Ultra-precision processing technology and processes;

1.2 Micro and nano measurement;

1.3 Atomic precision manufacturing;

1.4 IntelliSense and quality control of manufacturing.


2. Atomic precision characterization measurement:

2.1 Solid mechanics, physical mechanics and computational mechanics (including continuous medium mechanics calculations, molecular dynamics simulations, first principles calculations);

2.2 Materials science, and priorities will be given to the applicants in atomic-scale characterization and testing, including transmission electron microscopy, in situ electron microscopy, and atomic force microscopy;

2.3 R & D of precision analysis and testing instruments;

2.4 Micro and nanoelectromechanical system manufacturing.


3. Manufacturing of tissue interface atomic precision:

3.1 Tissue engineering and regenerative medicine;

3.2 Biomaterials;

3.3 Bio-3D printing;

3.4 Micro and nano-scale 3D printing.


II. Application requirements

1. Have a Ph.D. degree awarded within the last three years, with good moral, physical and mental health, and under 35 years old (in principle);

2. Full-time engagement in postdoctoral research;

3. Have solid foundation and experience in mechanical engineering, mechanics, physics, materials, biology, microelectronics, electrical engineering and chemistry, etc. Priorities will be given to the applicants with experience in interdisciplinary research. 

4. Good sense of teamwork and strong capacity of working independently;

5. Have good English listening, speaking, reading and writing skills;

6. Priorities will be given to the applicants who have published more than one paper of impact as the first author in the past three years, and with outstanding research results.

9. Those who meet the relevant regulations of Hangzhou can be assisted in getting the collective registered household of Hangzhou.
